Don’t Touch that
Thermostat! Ask us About In-Floor Insulation Instead.
Autumn has arrived. I don’t mean the first day of autumn as
seen on the calendar, but that time when the last of summer’s sun has faded,
and there is a chill in the air that is here to stay. Its coming was swift and
without remorse, but it is here now, so we may as well embrace it and all the
pumpkin spice and apple pies it brings.
Home Heating
To be honest, I feel quite ready for thick socks and warm
sweaters, hot tea and hearty meals. What I am not ready for is turning on the
furnace. My family always does the dance at this time of year; should we,
shouldn’t we…it’s getting down to 5 tonight, but tomorrow should be sunny, so
maybe we don’t have to….if we can just get to Thanksgiving that would be great.
The whole family gets into it to see who can go the longest without turning on
the furnace. It’s a big thing and there is always a sense of disappointment in
the eyes when someone has to admit they caved. Well, not this year, my
friends…this year I will have victory.
Crawl Spaces and Basement Floors
My secret is in-floor insulation. You see, I don’t mind
pulling on an extra sweater or grabbing a hot beverage to take off the edge,
but once my feet get cold, I am done. The chill from my feet spreads and before
you know it, I am heading over to that thermostat. Insulating the floor helps
keep the heat where it should be too; evenly distributed throughout the house,
as opposed to having a top level that is boiling and a downstairs that is
freezing.
If you have decided to take my advice and insulate your
floor, then you should take a few options into consideration before booking the
job.
Insulation Installation
Fiberglass Batts
Fiberglass Batting is the most cost-effective option you
have for in-floor insulation. It will get the job done and do a pretty good job
of it too. Just be aware that if not properly installed, over the years, it can
compress and lose R-value, but for the most part, it is a good option for
in-floor insulation on a budget.
Roxul Insulation
Roxul Batts enjoy the middle of the road pricing with a lot
of added benefits compared to fiberglass batting. It is mold and mildew
resistant and even fire-resistant. Employing this type of insulation in your
floors, walls and ceiling could mean that in case of a fire in your home, the
insulation should help prevent the spread of the flames and give your family
more time to escape. Furthermore, Roxul insulation is sound-absorbing, meaning
the days of listening to your children running around upstairs like a heard of
sugar-hungry elephants are over. You get peace and quiet, and they still get to
have their fun.
Spray Foam Insulation London Ontario and Area
Spray foam insulation is the premium choice and for good
reason. It will fill up every nook, every cranny and seal up any leaks ensuring
that when you do turn on that furnace, your ductwork and run efficiently and
keep the heat where it is intended. If you like the bedroom cooler for a better
night’s sleep, for example, then all you have to do is close the door and turn
off your vent, and you’re good to go. Additionally, this is a permanent fix,
meaning that once installed, you never have to worry about it losing its R-value
or soiling.
Now that you know my secret and understand your options,
give us a call and let us help you win the war over the thermostat. We service
all of Southwestern Ontario from Chatham to London and all of the communities
in between. Stay cozy this fall with Chase Insulation.
